Halloween in Czech Republic

As long as Halloween (and also the Chit Chat Café’s Halloween party) is just behind the door, I would like to share with you some words about Halloween in Czech Republic.
Traditionally we did not celebrate Halloween in my country, but thanks to recent influence of American culture, surely all Czech people know what Halloween means and some of them also attend Halloween parties, which are mostly held in English Language Schools or other place connected with English speaking countries.
Actually as the roots of Halloween lies in the Celtic festival of Samhain it belongs rather to the events of Western Europe, but as it is often happens to many countries including Japan and Czech Republic tradition of Halloween comes via USA.

Anyway I would say, the Halloween in Czech did not achieve a big popularity. There are at least two reasons: At first, Czech people traditionally dislike influence of big and strong countries such as America or Russia (maybe it we would more popular, if the Czech would know that it is originally holiday of “brothers” Celts), and at second, in the similar time we have our own Czech event, the roots of which are very close to Anglo-American Halloween. We call this event All Saint’s Day. And because this time I have already spoken to much I will tell you something more about it in my next blog.
