Hakodate

This weekend I was fortunate enough to travel to Hakodate. From talking to various people at Chit Chat Café I learnt that Hakodate is famous for its seafood and night view. Well, I didn’t have any seafood, but I must say the night view was beautiful. Although, trying to actually get a spot to see the night view on the platform was less than fun. I am glad that I am not claustrophobic.

I thoroughly enjoyed the ride down to Hakodate; the mountains amongst the mist were absolutely stunning. Noted along the way was a general lack of abiding to the speed limit from the public. From speaking to my girlfriend’s parents I learnt that Hakodate is evolving more and more into a tourist trap then it previously was. I thought this was evident in the 860-yen charge to visit the Hakodate observatory deck, then an added 200-yen fee for using the binoculars.

Our accommodation in Hakodate was at a Japanese style spa hotel. The hotel charge included a buffet dinner and breakfast, yummy! I must say I was more than a little nervous to use the Japanese baths for the first time. I have never been in a room full of naked men. My girlfriend’s father however, is very kind and went along with me (this was also a little scary). The outdoor bath was a really great experience and I am so happy I tried it. I can defiantly understand why it’s so popular.
