I love summer!

Hey everyone, it’s Daniel here, and my favourite time of the year has finally come! Now I can ride my bicycle around town and feel the cool wind in my hair while the sun shines everyday! What do you like to do in summer?

Just recently it was my 22nd birthday and I had a blast (a really fun time)! I went to a lovely yaki niku restaurant and it was amazing. Afterwards I went to the Hokkaido Jingu Matsuri, but there were too many people and I got tired quickly! However, it was a fun and memorable experience as it was my first festival here in Sapporo. I am very much looking forward to the beer festival! Which festival in Sapporo is your favourite?

I would like to share another one of my most recent memorable and interesting experiences here in Sapporo. I visited the popular Neko Café! The Neko Café is a place where people can enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea, and play with heaps of cats! The general idea behind the Neko Café is that people who love cats but are too busy to own and look after one can come in and enjoy the company of many different cats. I wish they had a Neko Café in Australia… I love cats! What pets or animals do you like?

That’s all for now, I hope to catch up with you later!

First three months in Sapporo

Hello everyone!! I hope you will enjoy my first blog here on Chit Chat Cafe page.

Some of you might be aware of this, but I have come to Sapporo only 3 months ago with my Japanese husband to enjoy our time in Japan.
As such I thought I should talk about what I have experienced in these past months.

I think I should apologise straight away, as it seems that since I came to Sapporo we have had some terrible cold weather. This has deterred me somewhat at the start from exploring Sapporo and enjoying this beautiful city to the fullest. But fortunately I have managed to get around to a few stunning places in Hokkaido during my time here. Ootaru, Niseko, Maruyama, Bie and Moerenuma park were the biggest ones and were just spectacular! Lots and lots of delicious food, amazing mountain terrain, never-ending rice fields, an incredible blue lake and lately an ocean of sakura and lilac blossoms - breathtaking.

And now that the summer is finally under way, I can really start to let loose and take in Hokkaido with everything it's got.

Despite all the fun that I had, there were some things I just had to get used to here in Japan, coming all the way from sunny Australia.
Language barrier of course was and still is the biggest obstacle for me to living in Japan. Even the simplest things like ordering food in a restaurant or buying groceries seemed almost impossible at the start. Now however, I am slowly beginning to settle in and get used to way of life Sapporo-style.

I am looking forward to all the adventures I will have here and the experiences that will help broaden my mind!

I would love to hear any suggestions as to where I should go to in Hokkaido, so please don't hesitate to come up to me and let me know.

Cheers,

Abe Maria (Rus/Aus)

Where's Spring gone?

"The cherry blossom is so late this year! When will it come?"
This is what I heard from so many friends and aquaintances since early May. As a foreigner living in Sapporo for a year only I can't tell how late hanami is but I can tell that last year we had a beautiful month of may with over 15 degrees!!! I mean it's supposed to be Spring since the 20th of March (it's what they said on TV) but I'm sure you've noticed that we had a winter-like month of May, not to mention April, with temperatures hardly reaching 12 degrees!

However, about a week ago now, summer seems to break through with tempartures suddenly jumping to 25 degrees !! Which is why I'm wondering where's Spring gone!
Anyway, thanks to this lovely weather back to Sapporo, it's now time for drinking and partying!! You probably went to hanami, even so the cherry blossoms had not bloomed yet, you may have been to the lilac festival (with no lilac but whatever...) or to the wine festival, and you may go to the yosakoi festival but I know deep down that you WILL go to the long-awaited beer garden festival!

So let's enjoy the sunshine and see you next time at the chit chat cafe!
